Mercurio is a performance born from the encounter between the choreographer and performer Luna Cenere and the composer, improviser and saxophonist Antonio Raia. The title “Mercurio” refers to a metal, a planet, and a mythological figure, and serves as the starting point and central theme of the performance. Through their collaboration, the artists explore the duality between masculine and feminine, merging practices, postures and knowledge. This interdisciplinary approach originates connections and contaminations of languages and disciplines, resulting in a transversal performance, an exploration that ventures down unconventional routes, embracing risk and uncertainty as integral parts of the creative process.
Bio
Luna Cenere, dancer and choreographer winner of the 2023 New Choreographies Price from the Venice Biennale with the project Vanishing Place and the Danza&Danza award as emerging choreographer in 2020 with the performance Genealogia_Time Specific. Luna was also AEROWAVES TWENTY18 artist with Kokoro, also selected at the NID Platform 2019. During the same year, Luna receives the Positano Léonide Massine special award as a talent from Campania. In 2021 she premieres Zoé, a production by Festival Oriente Occidente, selected at the NID Platform 2021, and Shoes on (2022) selected at the NID Platform 2023.
Antonio Raia was born in Naples. He graduated with honours from the ‘G. Martucci’ Conservatory of Music in Salerno in 2013 and since then has been involved in concerts, performances and art installations for more than 500 live performances all over Europe at festivals, contemporary art museums and clubs. He loves the relationship between music and the other arts and doesn’t like being labeled in a specific genre. Critic Phil Freeman in the prestigious magazine The Wire calls Raia ‘wind through metal’.
