National premiere
Presencia is a piece on movement and memory. The choreography is based on a repetition of movements that is infused with the dancers’ personal memories and daily experiences. Their lives find expression in the gestures they make on stage, as they unconsciously transfer their inner worlds into their performance. To further emphasize the importance of memory in the process, the performance is accompanied by a soundtrack composed of recordings of sounds produced by the dancers during rehearsals. Through deep listening and emotional expression, Presencia seeks to create an intimate connection between the performers and the audience, inviting them to share in the personal feelings and experiences that underlie the performance.
Bio
May Zarhy is an independent choreographer whose work explores the concept of liminality. She focuses on movement in relation to space, which she sees as a landscape inhabited by tensions. In her choreography, the act of listening becomes a central practice used to explore and negotiate each other’s presence. Zarhy graduated from Codarts in the Netherlands and the choreographic program at ex.er.ce in France. She is one of the founding members of the Mamaza collective, along with Joannis Mandafounis and Fabrice Mazliah in Germany. Since 2014, she has been creating pieces that blend choreography, performance, and soun art.
